    About the tour

Alberobello private tour with English speaking driver

If you enjoy visiting characteristic little towns rather than bustling big cities, then the private driving tour of Alberobello is definitely the best choice for you.

During this fascinating eight hours tour you will enjoy a comfortable drive to Alberobello, a small town located in the region of Puglia famous for the “Trulli”, which are cute little houses that resemble little conic huts that, when you walk among them, tryly give you the sensation of living in a fantasy world straight out of a Tolkien novel.

You will be driven from Naples to Alberobello in total comfort and safety by our English speaking drivers, who will make sure that the trip across the beautiful contryside of south Italy will be just as enjoyable as the visit to Alberobello itself.

    Itinerary

    Alberobello

Speak to others of your plans to visit Puglia, and one of the first things they’re likely to mention are the trulli. These curious conical-roofed whitewashed structures, clustered in pockets of Puglia like wild fungi, are an icon of the region. In fact, this peaceful part of southern Italy is the only place they have ever existed.

It is to view Puglia’s finest and largest concentration of trulli which brings people to Alberobello, a town of just over 10,000 people and declared world heritage by UNESCO in 1996.

The history behind the origins of the Trulli of Alberobello is really a peculiar one: in the 1500’s, the Acquaviva family, the local rulers within the feudal system, wanted to avoid paying property taxes to the King. They ordered local peasants to build their houses and dwellings without mortar so that, in the event of a royal inspection, the structures could quickly and easily be taken down, and the tax bill would remain low. Using local limestone and some ingenious building techniques, the local population created the trulli, many of which remain standing today.
