It is almost ironic how thanks to such a devastating event like the eruption of mount Vesuvius in 79 D.C., today we have the possibility to visit one of the most fascinating locations in the world.
Once in Pompeii you really have the sensation to be transported nearly two millennia back in history, the city has been almost perfectly preserved by the layers of crystallized ashes remained by the Vesuvius, to the point that you will even see the casts of the citizens of Pompeii frozen in time in the last moments of their lives
The many frescos, most of which are still very well preserved, will gradually tell you the story of this ancient city, you will learn about the way of the people that lived there, you will get to know the names and the lives of notorius inhabitants of the city, you will see with your eyes what where the customs, the virtues and the vices of a community that on the fatal day of August the 24th, 79 AD., met their end by the eruption of mount Vesuvius, which with very little warning wiped the population of this bustling and flourishing city.
The walking tour of Naples is structured around the cornerstones of Neapolitan culture and tradition and it will hinge around its roots, its history, its castles and its kings, the imposing Maschio Angioino which is one of the most important castles of the city, the Castel dell’Ovo, loved by the roman poet Virgilio, the wonderful Plebiscito’s square, the Saint Carlo Theatre, the magnificent Royal Palace and the Umberto I Gallery, and while you walk around you can look through the city alleys and its typical views, with strings of clothes suspended among the buildings.
Naples is also its flavors, the products that have made it famous all around the world, first of all, the creation of the Neapolitan chef Raffaele Esposito: the delicious Pizza, born in the 1780, which will be enjoyed walking in the charming district of via dei tribunali, few steps away from the Duomo of Naples, where the treasure of the patron saint San Gennaro is preserved, and where every year the miracle of the blood liquefaction takes place.
After the pizza, you can’t miss the tipical neapolitan homemade dessert Babbà, while you let yourself be charmed by the streets of Saint Gregorio Armeno, cradle of a very special art, the street of the nativity scene makers.
While you taste the typical street products made in naples such as taralli, crocchè, frittatine you will be amazed by the beautiful piazza del gesù Nuovo, San Domenico, and the Majolica Cloister of Santa Chiara monastery
The National Archeological Museum of Naples is considered the most important in the word regarding the Roman era and even the third most importat regarding the Egyptian era.
The museum was founded in 1816 by King Ferdinand IV and official declared National Museum after the unification of Italy in 1861. Ever since it has constantly grown, collecting archeological finds from all over the world but of course prioritizing those in the surrounding sites such as Pompeii, Herculaneum and Pozzuoli.
Tha many halls of the Museum offer an astounding variety of different king of finds, such as paintings, frescos, mosaics, statues, vases, weapons and armorms, old working tools and manuscripts
The building is ubicated in a central area very well connected to the rest of the city, so that after the visit is very comfortable to enjoy annything else that the great city of aple has to offer.
